As reported here earlier, Emily Blunt passed on the project last week, leaving Keira Knightley and Alice Eve in the race for the role. As of today, Knightley has dropped out, though no reason has been given. That would make some believe that the role would be given to Eve, but yet another name has just emerged on the shortlist for the character. According to E! Online, Marvel Studios screen-tested Alice Eve and Hayley Atwell for a second time yesterday in London.
Eve has just appeared in the romantic comedy “She’s Out of My League” and will be seen in the upcoming “Sex and the City 2″. Atwell was seen on AMC’s miniseries “The Prisoner” and is a possibility to star opposite Chris Noth on Broadway in the revival of “Born Yesterday”. That might lead to scheduling conflicts for the young actress if she wins the part of Peggy Carter, with the play hoping to open in the fall.
Filming of Joe Johnston’s The First Avenger: Captain America is scheduled for this summer, starring Chris Evans and Steve Rogers/Captain America and Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes. The film is slated for a July 22, 2011 release.
