Captain America now has two villains to fight in the Joe Johnston’s First Avenger: Captain America, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog. Hugo Weaving finally signed on the dotted line earlier this week to portray Cap’s arch nemesis the Red Skull after months of negotiations. Now comes word that British actor Toby Jones will be joining the cast as evil scientist Arnim Zola.
Jones is known for playing such real life people as Karl Rove in W, Swifty Lazar in Frost/Nixon, and Truman Capote in the film Infamous. He also voices the character of Dobby the House Elf in the Harry Potter films, and is also slated to appear in an upcoming episode of Doctor Who. He’ll next been seen in a comedy by Universal called Your Highness with Natalie Portman and James Franco.
In the Captain America comics, Zola is a scientist working for the Nazi’s to build clones and monstrous creatures for Hitler. He transfers his own brain into a robot near the end of World War II and survives to the present day.
Jones joins cast members Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Haley Atwell as Peggy Carter and Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull. The film begins shooting this June in England. The First Avenger: Captain America will hit theaters July 22, 2011.
